Microsoft has selected the PacketExhange Ethernet private line service to link their Dublin data centre to London and the Internet. PacketExchange was the primary supplier who could deliver a high-quality, reliable network service with an appropriate cost structure - key elements essential to the success of our operations in Dublin," said Mike Myers, senior director of MSN Network Operations at Microsoft, based in Redmond, Washington.
Microsoft's operations in Ireland are the 2nd largest outside of company headquarters in Redmond (after Japan). With a few hundred servers, the Dublin data centre is a major hosting site for many EMEA (Europe, Africa, & the Middle East) markets. This Data Centre hosts tens of millions of emails annually and houses a growing selection of Microsoft's core services, including a number of Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games - games in which hundreds or more players across the globe connect via the Internet and simultaneously role play.
"We are delighted to have been chosen by Microsoft to support their Dublin operations" said Kieron O'Brien, PacketExchange CEO. "This is a true testament to the quality and cost effectiveness of the PacketExchange service."
PacketExchange expanded their network to Dublin to deliver the service that Microsoft required. "We have been particularly impressed by PacketExchange's capability to deliver in line with our technology requirements and tight timescales" said Bharat Ranjan, head of MSN Network Engineering for EMEA.
