Network Management Skills
Linux & infrastructure
Experience of compiling packages from source
Knowledge and experience with C and patching code
Experience building and configuring PHP with custom extensions
Apache experience
MySQL installation experience
Qmail or similar MTA experience
Courier IMAP knowledge
Netscreen or Nokia Checkpoint experience
Kernel patching
DNS configuration knowledge
Nagios knowledge
mrtg knowledge for stats
Windows
Windows 2000/2003 experience
Able to decide which patches are appropriate instead of taking a "deploy
all" approach
IIS 5/6 experience including securing
MS SQL 7+ knowledge
Experience with difficult to apply patches like the original MS Blaster
fix
Ability to secure Windows by disabling all the built-in insecurities
and setting appropriate security policies on the box
HP InSight software and hardware knowledge
Installing components for use with ASP.Net websites
Installing components for use with normal ASP websites
Other things needed
Willingness to operate after hours to support servers if they fail or
require attention
Able and open to working from home
Compaq/HP hardware experience
Veritas NetBackup experience on Linux and Windows
DLT tape drive backup experience
Good communications and written skills for documenting any work done
Able to offer some email support for customers
Application Development Skills
PHP
MySQL
XML/XSL
C/C++
Perl
Java
HTML/DHTML and Javascript
Ideally we are looking for a network manager with some application
development skills particularly in PHP and MySQL. However if you have
strong network management skills or strong application development skills
we would like to hear from you.
