The user can then add comments and participate in that discussion. Any user can initiate a new discussion. It is advisable that 'trusted users' share the responsibility of monitoring discussions to ensure communications are courteous and clean.

Discussion forums have broader value than for those just taking part. A user may observe a discussion and learn from it without participating. Lively discussion forums are integral to any community.
